Radiation safety based on the sky shine effect in reactor

In the reactor operation, neutrons and gamma rays are the most dominant radiation. As protection, lead and concrete shields are built around the reactor. However, the radiation can penetrate the water shielding inside the reactor pool. This incident leads to the occurrence of sky shine where a physical phenomenon of nuclear radiation sources was transmitted panoramic that extends to the environment. The effect of this phenomenon is caused by the fallout radiation into the surrounding area which causes the radiation dose to increase. High doses of exposure cause a person to have stochastic effects or deterministic effects. Enforcement of law is a paramount aspect in ensuring the efficiency of laws. In general, this research attempts to discuss about the enforcement of law in the issue of deviation by emphasising on the Syariah Criminal Offences (Takzir) (Terengganu) Enactment of 2001. Besides, the research focuses on the methodologies on how those laws are enforced by Department of Islamic Religious Affairs of Terengganu by discussing vital aspects in identifying powers of enforcement of Syariah legal enforcement. Methods of gathering data used in this study are amongst others, through library research by focusing on statutes, practice orders and court cases. Interviews are also adopted. This study found that there are several lacunas in those laws, which must be solved despite numerous organizational weaknesses, management of human resource at the agency of enforcement and prosecution

Tomography systems and sensor applications velocity measurement of gas bubbles flow in vertical water column using ultrasonic sensor

The purpose of this paper is to present an implementation of measurement system using ultrasonic sensor to detect and measure the velocity flow of gas bubbles in vertical water column. The selection of the sensors is important and must be suitable to the application design. Consideration on the natural limitation of ultrasonic wave is also noted as the higher the frequency of the ultrasonic sensor, the better the sensitivity but lower penetration depth. 2-pairs of ultrasonic sensors are installed non-invasively at the periphery of an acrylic pipe. The glue is used as the coupling material to mount these ultrasonic sensors. The paper finds that information about the gas bubbles in liquid flow that obtained from the sensors’ measurements. Investigation of capabilities of electromagnetic tomography for pipeline imaging

In industrial process, pipeline leakage often only noticeable pipe condition is critical henceforth causing damages to its internal content. Therefore, pipeline inspection and monitoring work is highly demanding to take early precautions. Electromagnetic Tomography (EMT) is capable to produce images of the internal structure of an object by using external sensors without disrupting it. The coil sensors are placed around the object where the source coil transmits an oscillating magnetic field while the rest acts as receiver and measure the received signals. The measured signal provides the magnetic field distribution of the pipe, and will differ according to the materials’ passive electrical properties. In this paper, we investigate the capability of using EMT to identify metallic pipe openings by conducting a finite element analysis simulation study. The design and parameters of the EMT system, as well as the results of using the EMT model to detect various degree of metallic pipe openings is presented. The results confirm that the EMT imaging as a promising tool for inspection of metallic pipelines where the magnetic field of the investigated region differs according to the pipe opening and material of the pipeline

Information, Motivation and Behavioural Factors in Influencing Diabetes Self-Care: A Conceptual Paper

Globally, diabetes is a major public health concern and has impacted an estimated 425 million adults.  The increasing trend of diabetes incidence has impacted the Malaysian population and healthcare system. Evidence from studies suggested that diabetes can be treated and controlled through behavioural intervention. These include combining lifestyle with pharmacotherapy. Scholars in health behaviour highlighted the importance of assessing and monitoring the behavioural intervention among diabetic patients in terms of psychosocial aspects, such as information, motivation and behavioural factors, in relations with diabetes self-care. This article provides an overview of the empirical evidence regarding the importance of identifying information, motivation and behavioural factors, in relations with diabetes self-care. Information is among the prominent factors in establishing good diabetes management. Motivation can be conceptually defined as factors that predispose one to action and cues to behaviour change. Behavioural factors identified in this review includes compliance towards diabetes self-care. The outcome of this review could provide a better understanding of information, motivation and behavioural factors, and its relations with diabetes self-care
